Although it is pretty clear that a lot of people searching for porn online can't spell, for example; wemon or super naked, woman naket seen, women naked famouse. But there was one stand out search and I am glad they can't find what they were looking for here. It was a search for, chimp giving blowjob.

I am tired of seeing wine bottle packaging and vodka bottle packaging in design books and websites.

I get it you can make something fancy and designy for those products. Lets move on.

Why Do They Advertise?

Last night while Nancy and I were watching TV there was a commercial for Ameren. It was about how when the weather is bad their workers still go out and work in the bad weather to keep the power on.

Nancy brought up the point since there is no other option for us to get our electricity, why do they advertise?

We'd be happier for them to take the money they wasted on the production of the spot and agency fees and media placement and apply it to making the customers bills cheaper.

So maybe someone out there knows the answer to this. Enlighten us.

Evil Business, But Good For Business

I am only referring to the St. Louis advertising industry in this post. Because maybe it's going on elsewhere. It might even be going on here, but I don't think it is.

What am I talking about?

Agencies using the down economy and the mass of unemployed agency folks to trade up in talent.

Say at agency X they let go art director Y. What if art director Y is more talented than art director Z at agency A? It would seem logical that an agency now could easily get newer fresh talented people. Sure they would be doing some shady evil business by ditching some current people, but business is business.

So maybe this is going on but since it is kinda scummy in many ways, it's been kept so quiet that people just don't know. So do you know of anything like this going on? And I am only talking about and equal trade, not a place that cuts a CD and ads 3 ADs for the same price.

While the thought of this may be unfair, it is a very talent based industry. And it's also very much you are only as good as your last idea or piece of business that you've won.

It could also prove to be that if a place loaded itself with the best and brightest that they could it could more easily make it through these tough times and be able to grow their business.

Because I don't think here is an agency around where I know someone who hasn't brought up sub par co-workers, who they question how they still have a job.

The Rocker-

If you like School of Rock, you'll most likely like this. A fairly similar story, Adult is kicked out of band, joins a band of kids.

But the music is decent, there are some laughs and it's just a sappy sweet comedy.

And the kid who plays the role of the singer guitar player is really the person who performs the songs the band plays.

And it had an awesome line: "There are two things I don't trust without wires, phones and marionettes."

An Awesome Morning

It never hurts to ask.

I've always felt this was true.

Weeks ago at a meeting for a TV spot I was working on breakfast for the next morning was brought up and I had mentioned McGriddles. Well they weren't able to get them, and it was no big deal.

Well today I was heading down to a last minute audio session. And the wonderful folks at 90 Degrees West had already gotten breakfast for their other clients that morning but ran out an made a special trip and bought me a McGriddle. I was thrilled.

So see it never hurts to ask.

Well I can say one thing. The trailer is nothing like the movie.

ti made it look like a lighthearted comedy about a guy who thinks he has super powers. And you as the viewer aren't sure if he's a bit crazy or just an odd guy.

And while it is about a guy who thinks he has super powers. Lighthearted comedy it is not. This movie is dark. While there are some funny moments, you feel wrong if you do laugh at them. Because you know they will be followed by something far darker and heavier.

The movie is well worth seeing, it was just a shock since Nancy and I were sitting down expecting a comedy.

But then it got me thinking. I want to start keeping tabs of everything I spend to add up the sales tax, gas tax, utility taxes, etc that I pay in addition to my federal and state tax. I know it will only make me mad, but...

I think people have been fooled since all they pay attention to is their gross income. Because if you would go by your net income and you fall into a higher tax bracket you may find out that you take home pretty much that same as someone who has a far lower gross income than you do.

Our system needs a true overhaul.

The St. Louis Ad World

I just found out about another 3 person agency/creative collective that has sprouted up. There are so many I think I've lost count.

It's nice to see this happen. That so many people are having that nothing to lose attitude.

And even though I too am involved in one of these start-ups of sort, I question how many agencies/agency type things can St. Louis support. While none of these, strictly look for business in St. Louis, I would think that all of them will at least a little.

So when do they start merging together? When does one take off and start growing quickly? And when do the ones just stop and it's members go get jobs at other agencies?

I hadn't seen this since I was a kid. I remember seeing it on HBO and liking it. I bought it on dvd long ago during a stint as a member of Columbia house. I had never gotten around to watching the dvd. That is until last night.

The movie holds up well. It's a slow paced story about 4 men trying to escape different things in South America, that go on a suicide mission transporting nitro glister en to earn a lot of money.

Tea Bagging

The tea bag protests have been in the news an awful lot lately. While they are promoted by the right wing radio personalities and the like, I agree with what they are protesting.

This article gets it right. It's not about current tax increases. It's about insanely out of control government spending that will lead to them stealing more and more of your hard earned money in future years.

Luckily for the government the masses have too short of a memory to truly get pissed in greater numbers. Because the public seems to focus on nothing more than the most current dollar number being talked about by the media. When in fact they should get out their calculators and add up all the crazy bail-out spending that has taken place in the past year.

The protesters could also make a better stand if they openly focused their outrage against all government spending that started when "Bush agreed on a fiscal stimulus package of $170 billion in tax rebates and incentives. It picked up speed in the fall, when the Treasury spent $85 billion to take over insurance giant AIG and Congress approved $700 billion to rescue failing financial institutions." And continues to get even worse with Obama.

This excerpt sums it up well:
"Everything the federal government is doing will be forcibly extracted from our future earnings. The tea party protesters see that and are angry. Can the rest of the country be far behind?"

Bedtime Stories-

A sappy sweet Adam Sandler movie.

If you like his movies, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds or 50 First Dates, than the chances are you will like this too.

It has his normal cast of characters popping up in cameos. It has the "You can do it." line. It's completely unbelievable but it's so sweet, you just don't care.

Although this movie and all other shows or films should give up on using the Journey song Don't Stop Belivin', I can't hear that song and not think about the final scene of the final episode of the Sopranos.
