50%

So this article talks of how in England the taxes on people earning 150,000 pounds and above will rise to 50%.

Insane.

But then it got me thinking. I want to start keeping tabs of everything I spend to add up the sales tax, gas tax, utility taxes, etc that I pay in addition to my federal and state tax. I know it will only make me mad, but...

I think people have been fooled since all they pay attention to is their gross income. Because if you would go by your net income and you fall into a higher tax bracket you may find out that you take home pretty much that same as someone who has a far lower gross income than you do.

Our system needs a true overhaul.

The 50% tax rate is for every pound earned over £150 000.

So, your 150 001st pound is taxed at the 50% rate. As is the 150 002nd, 150 003rd, etc. etc.

For example, a person making £200 000 does not pay £100 000 in taxes. She pays the 50% rate only on pounds 151 001 through 200 000.
