Last night we ended up with around 170 kids come to the house to trick or treat. We live in a bit of a destination neighborhood. Where parents will drive there then take their kids around several blocks.
I dig Halloween. But there are some trick or treater pet peeves I do have.
The kid who walks up and doesn't speak. Won't say trick or treat, nothing. Just holds their bag towards you and stares. This is ok if it is a little very young kid. But we are talking 7-10 year olds. If you can't ask, do you really deserve free candy.
The kid who is too old to really be trick or treating, who is also not wearing a costume. Is free candy really worth the possible humiliation of doing something you should have stopped 3 years ago?
The parent who drives their kid tick or treating. They pull up in front of the house, kid gets out, walks up, gets candy, gets back in car. Repeat. Yeah this is what you kid needs, no exercise and a bag full of candy.
The parent who carries their infant around trick or treating. Do you think I'm dumb? Like I don't know that you are the one who is going to eat the bag of candy. Or you could be so dumb that you are giving a 6-9 month old candy. The only exception to this is if you live on the street and go to neighbors houses who you know.
Kids who request a specific candy from you bowl. Here's an early lesson, beggars can't be choosers.
So if you come to my house next year, don't be one of the types above.

i don't mind the infants. i mean, the kid's all dressed up. i think it's just getting into the festivities. besides, if it's just one infant and parents, it's their first child. i think they're just excited and want to add to their memories of a loooong list of firsts (first poop, first spit, first Halloween...). my aunts have done that with my little cousins. the candy just goes to my other older cousins when they come over for visits.
Our neighborhood is also one of those drive in to T or T, we get alot of teenagers with no costumes and a backpack on their chest asking for candy...I make these kids tell at least 2 jokes, and usually ask for some sort of performance...if they balk or say they don't have a joke, I tell them I don't have any candy for them...if you didn't spend too much time on that costume, you better spend more time on jokes.
