ST. LOUIS-- New statistics released by St. Louis police indicate that downtown is getting safer.

Police say crime downtown dropped 16 percent in 2007 compared to 2006. The Fourth District covers all of downtown, including the Gateway Arch and Edward Jones Dome. Officers say crime dropped across the board -- from robberies to killings. Car break-ins declined by more than 550.

Police say increased foot patrols and security at parking garages helped.

The crime statistics were announced during the district's awards ceremony on Thursday.

I think it's most likely because half of the Dynamic Duo lives downtown. Thank him for keeping you safer.
