The Ride

It was nice to be able to be back to going on the full moon fiasco rides. It was nice to see people that I haven't seen in months and months. Heading to turtle park it was a lot colder out than I thought it was. I was considering stopping to add some layers on. But after the first big hill we came to I was hot and more clothes seemed like a bad idea.

Julie and I were the first to arrive and while sitting in the wind at turtle park it was time to add the long underwear layer.

The ride was fairly short and simple. We ended up at Carondelet Park, where then there were races around a small looped road.
The races were broken up into bike category:
Fat tire bikes
Geared bikes
Single speeds
Fixed gears

SInce my leg is still weak I am still riding with my freewheel, cause I need that ability to coast and rest.

Well I got some wild hair and decided to race in the single speed group. I was expecting to come in last since I wasn't thinking my leg would let me go too fast. Going into the third turn I moved into second place. We started the uphill climb. My leg hates hills. But then again I have always hated hills. I started to slow, so I stood up to pedal.

the next thing I know I was slamming into the pavement. I mostly landed on my left hip, and damn does it hurt.
I am way too old to be falling off my bike while riding fast. Or while riding slow for that matter.
A group of us rode to South City Diner and had some food and coffee. My hip really started to tighten up. Luckily our friend Chris was close by and has a pick-up. So I succumbed to not riding home, but throwing my bike in the back of the truck and being driven home.

My hip thanks you Chris.

The diner has the same chairs and booth as we have in our breakfast nook in our house. The tables is the same but reversed color from ours. Odd.

I am looking forward to the ride next month. But hopefully with no falling in my future.
