I wanted tattoos since I was 4. I had an uncle who had several and he had a glass eye, so it seemed pretty damn cool to me, even at that age. Even then my parents tried to sway me, by letting me know they put them on with needles. But I didn't care my mind was made up. And at the age of 18 (when I moved out of the house) I got my first. And I have really never stopped. I ended up in a career where being covered in tattoos has probably helped me more than hindered me.
This article that I saw today is all about tattoo removal and mostly about removal of a persons name that has been tattooed on. IT warns to never get someone's name. Well I have done it 4 times. Ex-wife, current wife and both my sons.
My ex's name is now covered up, but my current wife had to be married to me for 2+ years before I was able to get it covered up. So that lead me to getting her name tattooed on me, since I felt it would be insulting to her if I didn't.
There is also part of the article where a woman is getting one removed because her husband doesn't like it. Well that is total bullshit. My wife isn't really a fan of tattoos, but she can appreciate their beauty, but can also look past them and just see me. We will be out somewhere and she'll notice people sort of staring and she'll wonder why. Then she remembers that she is with a tattooed freak.

i know that very man you speak of... and yes it sort of struck a chord with me too. although i do remember a time when i never thought i would get one. well alot has changed since then as well as my skin. you always opened doors for me and i couldn't have asked for a better mentor at times. i dont regret my full sleeve n the least but much like you, i wish people could look past it. the fact that my body is decorated doesn't say anything about the person i am.
i guess in a way thats what a parents might have been trying to warn us about. it's funny... for years i have thought of getting a Dag Nasty tattoo to honor/be cool like Jeff
A Dag Nasty tattoo sounds like a great idea.
People at most places I don't mind going are normally pretty cool. I was wondering what would happen when I just went and bought my new car, since now may knuckles are tattooed and I really don't have a job that I can prove. But the finance guy at the dealership had several tattoos and we chatted about the people we knew at shops, so once again it played to my benefit.
