I have one thing to say.
I am so glad the tandem broke. There is no way we would have ever been able to do the ride on it. The hills were large and many.
But I really don't know if I would recommend doing the ride on a fix gear either. Which is what we did. We were pretty much the only people not wearing spandex at the entire event. We were the only two on fix gears.
The first 20 miles was fine. I hated the hills, but it wasn't too bad. Eating donuts wasn't bad. I wasn't trying to eat a ton. And they helped keep my blood sugar up. I did hear that someone ate 30 something at a stop. That is just nasty.
The last 10 miles wasn't too bad until we got closer to town and around every turn I would think it was going to be over. Because by then, my butt had enough of sitting on a bike seat and my legs wanting to stop spinning.
There was a huge BBQ competition going on on main street after the ride was over. But there was one small problem. Most every booth didn't have food for sale. It would seem they would understand they have 900 people in their small town who just rode their bikes in the heat, so they would probably be hungry.
Overall it was a good time though.
