Here is a column from Stltoday.com about our energy problem.
And here is a letter I wrote to the columnist:
would say the reason we used to be able to do great things quickly and can't now is greed. The oil companies could surely be the ones to figure out the next energy source, but they would need all new equipment and who knows what else and that would cost money. So it is in their best interest to use up and keep using oil. That way they can make the most money and spend the least right now.
Our times are changing and not in a good way. The very rich control all. And they are only concerned with their immediate bottom line. They are too short sighted to see that if they continue to destroy the middle class there will be no one left to be able to buy their products, or gas or whatever.
I know this is a very pessimistic view, but every year I read about CEOs salaries being 400% higher than the everyman. And nothing is done about it. The middle class has been lulled to sleep, and grown complacent with what they have and as it is slowly taken away, they are too lazy and scared to rock the boat in fear of losing it all.
So yes, I do think the problem could be solved within a few years. But only if the super rich figure out how they get to reap all the rewards.
