Age

Age is a funny thing.

It's been on my mind a lot lately. Mostly because of reconnecting with old friends on Facebook.

There have been several people as of late that I have not seen for 20 years. These are also people who were a few years younger than me. So as I chat with them now it really is hard to imagine them not as a teenager still. But to realize they are people in their late 30s, with families, careers, children.

But age is also something I have trouble viewing in myself. When I look in the mirror, I don't see 40. I don't act what I think of as 40. And I don't know if I ever will act my age.

This also lead to thinking about how an age difference in people is no big deal and times it is a huge deal. One of the main people I hang out with is 27. Those 13 years are of no big deal now. But we don't even need an age difference that extreme to use as an example. We can use 5 years.

It takes quite sometime before those 5 years aren't a lifetime of separation.
New born- 5 year old
5 year old- 10 year old
10 year old- 15 year old
15 year old- 20 year old

Here is when we get close but we're still not quite there.
20 year old- 25 year old. Here it's that 21 year old age to be able to drink.

Then we move even closer.
25 year old- 30 year old This will depend on how mature or immature each person is. Does the 30 year old have a family?

Then we finally move to zero difference.
30 year old- 35 year old

And from here we never look back.
Now these are no hard fast rules. But merely and example of how odd this thing of a persons age is.

Age is a relative thing...I don't really think about it much, though it comes up in conversations often around me...I don't feel my age, nor do I act it, but then how should I feel or how should I act...it's up to me in the long run.
