Being a freelancer I have found that business etiquette is pretty much dead.
People don't respond to emails. If you send a resume somewhere you get no indication that they received it. And voicemail is no better way to get a response from someone.
I know people are busy. But it truly isn't that hard to respond to messages.
Recently I encountered someone who broke this bad etiquette trend. They were the polar opposite. They had impeccable manners involving communication with other humans. I received a voice mail on Friday asking me to call them Monday because they would be unavailable the rest of the day.
I called Monday mid morning and got their voicemail. Tag they were it. I never expected to hear from them again. I figured the call Friday was their last effort they would put out.
I was wrong. About a half hour later I got a call back. Now I can't go into any detail about the call, their manners were absolutely great. A truly good guy in a world of complete self absorbed self important assholes.
