It seems pretty much every other day I get news that some agency in town has let people go. I've heard of them from 4 different agencies in the past week alone.

I suspect there will be more.

But I don't think it's all doom and gloom. While I still think a couple places will go under before it's all over, there have also been many new things popping up out of the mess that has happened. I know of 4 small shops that have sprung up out of the mess of this layoff land we have.

I think it will be very interesting in the next year as we see which new agencies take off and grow, which merge with each other, which fail and which decide to remain nothing more than a couple of people.

I also think once things turn around, agencies that let people go may start to suffer once there are jobs that people can start leaving to go to.

So my word of advice, just as if you are an employee it's best to never burn bridges, it is also true that if you are an employer don't take this time to have an attitude of, you're lucky you have a job, towards your remaining employees.
