Real Estate

I've always thought most real estate agents are pretty lazy. It seems like a second career for most people who are in it. And yes I am sure there are plenty of exceptions to this but I would guess those are rare.

With the recession, the housing market has slowed. What has also slowed is the real estate listings and the amount of open houses.

Those two seem connected to me. If you don't tell and show people the houses that are for sale, how do you expect to sell them?

Sure people who are in the market for a new house will most likely hire an agent and they will send them links online of houses. But where this plan fails is the people who may not really be looking to move, but could be swayed if they saw the right house.

It's how my wife and I ended up in the house we own now. We had a house we were quite happy with. We were out one day, drove by an open house sign and decided to stop. A couple months later we bought that house.

And while this probably isn't most likely a common occurrence, I can guarantee that we are not the only people to ever buy a house this way.

So sure your sales have dropped, but buck up and take note of the old saying, You have to spend money to make money.

But what would I really expect from a profession full of lazy people.

A couple of things that strike me as odd with real estate agents.

You hire one to find a house for you. Then they send you all the same crap you can find yourself online. You are hiring someone to handle paperwork at the end basically and "negotiate" your deal. Which basically, is just you telling them what you want to offer. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I have never seen a good real estate agent be a good negotiator (in residential).

Even the shows on HGTV have the real estate agents saying to offer higher than the people they represent want. Then they make an offer lower than the agents recommendation and they get the house. What expertise...

My last rant... since I always look for houses is the real estate agents that don't update their pictures online, or have blurry photos, uploaded horizontally instead of the right direction, and some even have snow on the ground and its July.

If I was selling a property with a listing agent that had snowy photos of my house posted in July, they would get the ax for simple principle. Nothing makes your house look more like a lemon than selling it will pics of the wrong season outside.

Done... for now...

My real estate agent for my Orlando home purchase KICKED ASS! Awesome advice and great negotiating skills. We were blown away... And really isn't that what you are paying for? I can find everything on the web and I surely don't need someone to try to guess what home I may or may not like.

Rest that I have had thru the years have pretty much been mediocre, and I have been thru a few. In fact the buyers agent with my STL home was a bigger help than my selling agent was [now granted they both worked out of the same office so conflict was minimized]. She also was a true professional wanting to get the best for both parties [and who is paying the bill here anyhow... ME! Hello, shouldn't you be kissing my ass? ;)] Sure wish I would have signed her as my sellers agent instead, I might have walked away with more $$$$!
