Digital TV Sucks

We have DirecTV on two of out tvs in the house. We don't have cable hooked up in the bedroom. We watch a bit of Letterman or Conan or whatever before we go to bed. It's just a bit of mindless TV before sleep sets in.

Well that is what we used to do.

Our plan once the analog signal switched to digital was we would get dvds of TV shows we meant to watch but never did.

That really didn't work out. We found we really don't want to have to pay attention at that hour.

So a few weeks ago I signed up to get one of those stupid government coupons for the digital converter box. My coupon card came in the mail, and I headed up to Target to buy the box and a digital antenna.

I hooked it all up and channel 11 isn't fucking there.

We never had a problem with the analog signal.

So I mess with it and finally get it set so it comes in. But it doesn't work all the time. In fact most channels have a problem sometimes.

This is where digital sucks. With analog you might get a crappy picture but you could deal with a little snow or a few lines. Digital either works or it don't.

The other thing that came up in a conversation today was... What about the emergency broadcast system? If some truly serious shit goes down and cable and satellite are not working, am I going to get the info on my rabbit ear receiving digital converter box TV? And what about people who don't have a TV that has rabbit ears?

It all seems like a scheme by some TV lobby or the cable lobby to make people buy more shit.
