I'm not going to go into a rant about the days of full service gas stations and how they would check your tires and oil and whatnot.
But I do have a huge gripe where things have sunk with gas stations.
The fucking air hose.
It used to be free. Because any service station need to have an air compressor so to provide an air hose for customers is no big deal.
Hell even if there is no service bay, the cost is minimal.
A lot of gas stations have air hoses but as I found out when trying to put air in my cars tires, they all cost money. From 50¢ to $1.00 to use the air hose!
I thought you have to be kidding me.
I was being stubborn, plus I had no quarters on me. So as I drove along my way, I stopped in at least 6 places before I finally found a place with a free air hose.
Sure it's 50¢... but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that for truly 30 sec. worth of use, to add air to two tires.
Do they really make enough money on the pay hoses vs. annoying people like myself?
For me they would be better off having a free hose by the pumps so as I am filling up I could check my tires. It would make me far more loyal to their station. As it is now I stop where ever is close to me when I need gas.
