I Hate This Audi Spot

It's getting to be that time of year where I see and complain about the cars as gifts TV spots. You know the ones with the big bows on the cars. The ones that say, "be an asshole. give someone a car."

Well this year I have a whole new one to bitch and complain about.

I don't know what this spot says to you, but to me it says, I have an Audi. I am a privileged asshole who doesn't feel the need to take part in my neighbors traditions. Instead I will flaunt my material goods. And you will all be impressed.

Total assholes.

The xenon lights on the Audi are whimsical and unique, and not what you'd expect from that automaker. Unloaded, they are the same price as a new Nissan Altima, and have a better crash test rating. Choosing an Audi doesn't mean you're privileged, it means you want the better deal for your buck. Jealous??

If the commercial was about the value of the car based on it's performance and features I have no issue with it. Audis are nice cars. But they arrogant way they are displayed in this spot makes the owners look like assholes.

Everyone else on the block put time and effort into tradition. The new people on the block pull their cars out of the garage.

The people would appear as assholes no matter what car they drove in the spot. It's their actions.

You are right on. The method of the message did not in any way point out the quality of an Audi...only that you're a pretentious snob if you own one. And in this particular era, you would think Audi would know better, although snobbery knows no downturn, does it?

I don't hate the car. I just hate this spot.

The real materialism comes from the neighbors attempting to outdo each other with their gross displays of lights. How is competing for the most decked out house teaching their kids anything positive about tradition? It's all about "who has the best/most". How is having an Audi with cool lights any different?

I see the people decorating as having pride in their block and while trying to one up each other they are making their block closer as a whole.

And this spot is about selling a car. Not about teaching kids.

And they are trying to sell a car through the idea of being an asshole.

Let's not kid ourselves here - it's all about materialism. I think the old neighbors overdecorating are assholes, you think the car owners daring to flip off that tradition are assholes. Everyone is an asshole, including the agency that came up with the concept.

I think anyone who leaves a comment as "anonymous" is an asshole. Own up to what you say or sit the fuck down,.....asshole.
