Personal Property Tax

It's one of the things I hate about Missouri.

Personal property tax.

I don't know how it's all handled in other states but I do know that it sucks here in Missouri.

1. The fact that it's due in December, when people are using their money for the holidays always seemed beyond retarded to me.

2. The fact that it seems almost illegal to have to pay taxes repeatedly on the same item year after year.

3. That the payments are made out to a person and not to a department seems that wrong doing would be far to tempting.

So I just made out my check and will mail out my payment on Monday. They have an option to pay online. I went to the site to do that. After I clicked a few buttons and typed in my account number, I then saw they wanted to charge me $16 dollars for a "convenience fee".

You have to be fucking kidding me.

While yes it is more convenient for me, I would argue that it is also more convenient for them. They don't have to open the envelope I sent, match the check up with the paperwork, deposit the check, etc.

Now I could see charging the fee if the payment is late, to avoid the hassle of having to go to the actual office to pay. But there is no way in hell I am going to pay one extra cent on top of a payment I already hate to make, year after year.

In the check subject line you should put " for 1000 midget porn DVDs"

It won't help, but the theory is that we Missourians pay an annual personal property tax on the value of our cars and boats etc instead of paying more or less the same amount of money overall on gas taxes and park fees and tolls and such where said personal property gets used little by little.

No idea why it's due in December, but I enjoy your cheap gas the rest of the year.
