I'm Not Sure What I Think

I was very excited when a friend sent me the news that The Flaming Lips would be covering Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon in it's entirety.

I was then very excited to hear that the new years eve show in OKC they would be playing the entire album live.

Then last night as I went to the iTunes store I saw the album had been released. It also featured Henry Rollins and Peaches. I bought it right away.

The reviews on itunes are on one side or the other. People either love it or hate it.

I'm not sure where I land yet. It is not at all what I was expecting. What I had in my mind of how this would sound was going to be awesome. And in reality it has a very different sound than I had imagined. I don't think that's bad, but I was just surprised.

My one complaint is if I heard this playing I don't know if I would recognize it as Dark Side of The Moon right away. And while I want tributes/covers to always have that bands take on the original material, it still needs to remain close enough to the original or the point kind of gets lost.

I will give it a few listens and make up my mind.

Go buy it and see for yourself.
