Taxes

The government did a test on 10 tax prepares. 8 had the wrong total on the tax form. These are professionals who charge people to prepare their taxes for them.

Guess what the governments answer for this is?

To regulate tax preparers and charge them for it.

It's not that maybe the tax code is far too complicated and has so many changes every year that even a person who does it for a living can't do it properly. No that would make far too much sense.

They would rather use this as a time to try and get more money from the people.

Not to mention that if professionals can't do taxes properly how on earth is the average person expected to complete their own tax forms?

Just go to a flat tax.

But that won't happen. Because the IRS is the biggest most evil government entity there is. No jackass in washington is going to be the one to kill that many of their pals jobs.

And why make it simple. Keep people confused and it's easier to rip them off.

And the one other bit I saw was the government is also talking about taxing peoples medical benefits, based on the level of coverage they have. The reasoning is since getting insurance through your employer is pre taxed income, the government claims that the people with the best coverage make enough money that they don't need that tax break.

Things are getting worse everyday.

I'm a huge fan of a progressive, flat tax system. But I've got to tell you, the IRS isn't even in the running for the biggest, nor the most evil entity in our government.
