Movie Remakes

Normally when you hear they are remaking a movie you think, WHY?

They tend to be horrible. Think Planet of the Apes or The Vanishing.

But every now than then they can be awesome, think Dawn of the Dead or The Fly or The Thing.

So what are some other ones that either are shameful to ever have been thought of, and what are ones that live up to the original?

The Departed
Invasion of the Body Snatchers

And ones that don't live up to the original:
The Hills Have Eyes
Halloween
The Hitcher
The Longest Yard
