MRT

So rather than spend the day on the couch watching pre-game football shows and eating chips, my friend Jake and I decided to go ride bikes. We wanted to go fairly early since it is once again supposed to be way too hot for October. We thought we should try riding the Missouri River Trail. We had heard a little about the trail but not too much. Well it turned out to be a very well kept secret. The trail was awesome. Perfectly paved, cool murals on some of the flood wall, odd industrial sites, a cool view of the river and not very crowded. We did see many other people riding, and they all seemed to be very unfriendly. Maybe they were in a race we didn't know about, because they all seemed way too serious. So several parts along the trail there are nice little rest stops, two of them actually had people working there with snacks and jugs of water. We rode to the chain of rocks bridge, a 12.6 mile ride(one way). You can ride a lot farther where the trail picks up in Illinois, but we didn’t have it in us this day. We then rode over the bridge, where I remembered that long ago I had done some freelance work on some signage there. I had never seen the work complete, but there it was for all to see. The other odd thing about the bridge is it goes up hill, and riding a fixed gear this whole time the last thing I wanted to do was ride up hill on a bridge. So we sat for awhile at the rest stop there and then decided to head back. Well the ride back was a completely different story. The entire way we were riding directly into a horrible head wind. This wind made us stop and rest many more times than our ride to the bridge. My body was not happy with me having not eaten anything before our ride. But we made it back and had a great time. I strongly suggest you go check out the MRT, it's a fun time.

Rode that trail quite a bit earlier this year. There is always a wind going or coming....and occasionally both directions!
