Well I'm done with them

So after my second email to Starbucks to find out if employees cannot have tattoos that show I received an email from them asking me to call them. Why they could just give me a yes or no answer by email is beyond me. So I called them this morning. They do have a policy against tattoos. So I am writing Starbucks off. I will no longer go to their stores, I will no longer buy their coffee in the grocery store.

I wonder how does a company that discriminates like this make it on the best places to work list?

The way I figure is if they are too good to allow their employees to have tattoos, than they are too good for me to buy horribly overpriced coffee from them.

Are they forgetting that they are a coffee shop? They aren't some huge corporate law firm or bank. What person who goes to Starbucks would be offended by being served a cup of $4 coffee buy a person with a tattoo?

I should go put in an application there and sue them. Now that would be the new American way. But I think that's scummy too.

Now I need to find a new good coffee to buy at the store to make at home. Any suggestions?

look at it this way. do we really want everything to be accepted everwhere. as tattooing becomes more and more accepted, its nice to see it not accepted somewhere.

also, where does it end, can an employee have a big bone through their nose?

Why stop there? Let's put a cap on what an employee can weigh. So unless you can prove with a doctors note that your weight is an untreatable medical problem and not just the cause of over eating and a poor diet, that person too can be discriminated against.

I agree. Lets put a cap on what an employee can weigh. Nobody wants to be served coffee from an obese person. In addition, obese employees are not good for business. They also raise health insurance costs.

It seems that they do allow employees to have tattoos, as you said the girl you saw had to cover it.

So they aren't discriminating against hiring, just discriminating against showing them as they don't want them to be part of the uniform.

Companies do have the right to determine what "image" they wish to project to the public, and if tattoos don't fall within that mold, then so be it, as long as they are still allowed to work there and the company provides a universal uniform to make it an equal opportunity playing field.

So your argument is void really, as there is not discrimination on who is hired, but rather what they are allowed to wear to work. If you went to an expensive 5 star restaurant, a restaurant owner would be allowed to decide if someone with purple hair projects the right image to the patrons of that restaurant to serve food.

So if they want to work there, wear the long sleeve uniform or work somewhere else really.

I will agree that it is rather silly since it is a coffee shop, started by "free-spirited" hippies, but nonetheless, corporations, stockholders, and the censoring American way have been the impetus for a lot of ridiculous things throughout our Country's Growth.

Bottom line, get your coffee where ever you like. Life is too short.

jeff, why is there a nazi commenting on your blog?

I thought a blog was a place for people to have free speech? Are you afraid to voice your opinion because you are scared to hurt someones feelings?

dearest anonymous nazi blogger.
my opinion is that your opinion is wrong.

knob job...hehehe

i love all of this anomymus stuff, it takes balls to state your opinions for all to see. It is actually a-ok to dissagree with someones opinion, not a big deal at all, it may even start a better disscussion, but many folks believe that dissagreeing with ones opinion is the same as condemning that person as a whole...not true...apples to bananas

i would guess that starbucks is just fucked since you are not coming back..... or really happy or could not give a shit. and remind us - why did you lose your job again?

I am sure Starbucks doesn't care. Why would you care why I lost my job? That's old news. You can go back to the September posts and read "Today was the day"
