So the city I call home has just gotten a new logo and tagline. And it sucks. This thing looks like bad student work to me. But hey what do I know, they are the ones who got 47k to come up with it. Why on earth would the city spend that kind of money on this when the city schools need money? And I'm sure we could come up with a long list of things the city could spend money on before they spent it on this garbage.
Sure we need to keep tings fresh and updated here to get more industry to move here etc...
But seriously I am in the advertising industry and 47k to come up with this is crazy.
You can go here to read more about it.

WOW is right! 47K for what is maybe the worst rendition of the arch ever. It already drives me crazy that 74.6% of every "logo" in St. Louis has to incorporate the arch. But if you're going to use it, at least draw it with something that resembles proper perspective.
Seriously, that thing took maybe 10 minutes to draw up. The "St Lou Is.." campaign isn't too bad. But the graphic needs help.
They could have had a contest amongst local firms, organizations, and students for the best logo and tagline, and gave away prizes and pay for a spotlight feature / article on a local firm or winner. I suspect there are some serious politics that contributed to who was awarded the work, and the price tag associated with it. I am all about large budgets for work, if the work in the end is worth it the price tag and is done at a high level of execution.
What I want to know is who the focus group was that thought this was good? "lou" is short for toilet, and many people from St. Louis hate being referred to as St. Lou.
In the end, I think this is just another example of people having no clue what good design is verses bad, which is why so many of my creative friends are always on the lookout for new careers.
the "arch" isn't even equally weighted...its thickness varies as it nears the type, because some asshat can't use the pen tool....bravo STL.
wow. i wish i could be paid 47k for crap.
Unbelievable. So the St. Louis convention and visitors commision hires a Carmel, Indiana based research firm and a San Francisco based (although they do have offices in St. "lou") ad agency to come up with this hunk of shit! Coincidentally, the ad agency sub-contracted the PR work out to a firm in Kansas City. There are so many amazing organizations and individuals working hard to push this city forward, why oh why, are they not up in arms about this logo, this practice of hiring out of towners for these kinds of projects, and the $47K that was paid for this sub-substandard thing they're calling a logo?
i believe 'loo' is brit slang for toilet...St. Loo is full of crappy design ideas
