So it was announced last week that Merrill Lynch's new CEO would be paid at least 50 million dollars a year. Why? What does a person do to deserve such a paycheck? I have a belief that people who make a lot of other people money can justify making a lot of money themselves, i.e. athletes, actors, etc. But it may just be me being unknowledgeable but what the hell does a CEO really do? And worse is CEOs get giant paychecks if they do great or if they suck.
I knew of one CEO who was in charge when his companies stock went from $50 per share to about $7 a share. And while he was replaced as the CEO he was truly fired. They instead made him the president of another part of the business. I want that deal. How can I do a horrible job and not get fired but just get transferred.
CEOs now make on average 300 times that of the employees of their companies. When will this trigger a worker revolt?
