Crazy Clients

Why are advertising clients so crazy?

I'm not sure they realize that they are paying a team of people by the hour to work on stuff for them, unless of course the agency is on retainer, which is less and less these days. I understand that we are here to do the work they need, but there needs to be that point that the client realizes that they are wasting a ton of money on changes that truly don't matter.

I am working on a project and part of it includes a coupon page. We are now on round 5 of this piece and it's just for an internal presentation. Just this morning we have gotten two sets of changes to copy that once this piece is in the presentation no one will be able to read anyway. I guess in the end this is our job and we do what is asked of us. But it's hard not to question crazy behavior.

I often like to compare how clients treat their agencies to what things would be like if you treated many other places you hire to do work for you in the same way. Can you imagine taking your car to a mechanic and giving your opinion on which tool he should use, or after they had done some work, you ask to start over and try it with a different piece, and you're shocked when it costs you twice as much. This list could go on and on. And sure it's fun to complain about the odd things in my job, but in the end I know I have it pretty good. There are far worse things I could be doing for a living, but I will always question stupidity.
