It's The New Thing

It was beautiful out yesterday.

So a friend and I decided we needed to go ride bikes. We met at the mid point between our houses near Atomic Cowboy.
Food was in order so we were going to head down to the Loop.

We were in no huge hurry so we rode along through the west end. Going around a corner at Olive and Boyle, we heard a loud bang. I thought great even after the new tires I have another flat. We pull over and while my front tire seemed low, it wasn't getting any flatter. That's when I saw the tube had gotten pinched and blown the tire off the rim, but then was pinched tight so no air was coming out.

I had no tubes. My friend had one though. I put the new one in. Went to pump it up.

It was flat too. Damn.

We planned to walk to Velocity cafe. Then my friend suggested we walk to the Metro station by the hospital. So then we were just going to take the Metro to the station near Big Shark.

So we ended up with a day of taking our bikes for a walk. And let me tell you... It sure is fun. Especially when people comment on it to you.

We get to the station, finally figure out which way the money needs to face to go into the machine and get our tickets. PErfect timing a train got there less than a minute later. We only had two stops to ride. My friend says, how do you know if you are on the blue line or the red line? I didn't really comprehend his question at that second and my response was, "by paying attention".

That's when we realized we were not headed for the delmar station, but the Skinker station.

That station is cool and made it feel like we were in a really big city. So we walked from there to Big Shark. After all going out for a bike walk is going to be the next big thing.

I bought myself and my friend some tubes. AS we were out front a crazy old man walked by repeatedly mumbling, "3 more hours, 3 more hours." We knew we wanted to be no where near him in 3 hours.

Then we rode through stopped traffic on Delmar. Once again a feeling of big city. We stopped at Blueberry Hill for beer and food. Another of our friends met us there.

Then we were headed back towards south city. Traffic was really backed up on Skinker and we weaved through it just as you would see in some bike film about NYC messengers. I find it fun. Our friend who had met up with us was screaming that she wanted to kill us and was going to ride home alone. But we convinced her to stick with us.

Through the park and through the rape tunnel, through the hill and finally home.

It was a good day to take the bike out for a walk.
