Foreclosure

So here is an article about banks being overwhelmed with calls from consumers to try and get help to save their home from foreclosure.

But this little excerpt and photo of the woman from the story are what set me off with this whole mess:
"Cavallari, a music composer who does scores for films, is like hundreds of thousands of Americans going through foreclosure. But she says the process of trying to save her home -- and her $92,000 down payment -- has worn her out. She recently filed for bankruptcy and is moving out of her home with her young daughter."

I will admit I know nothing of this woman's situation or story. But I would ask, how expensive of a house did she buy that warranted a $92,000 down payment? That would roughly be 20% of a $500,000 home. I love our house but, would love a more expensive home than where we live. Problem is... I know we can't afford more at this time. It's called living within your means. The other thing is in the image she is using an iPhone. So she's filed for bankruptcy but not only has a cell phone but one that also requires at least and extra $30 a month for a data plan. Way to cut back during hard times.

While I understand hard times can fall on anyone, but I find it hard to feel for anyone who files for bankruptcy, who has a $300 phone, with a fancy after-market case who lives in a half a million dollar house.

$92,000 down payment? That's nearly as much as the purchase price for my house. I hope she didn't have to sell her vacation home or yacht as well...that would have been just awful.

Let's not forget about her iphone too. I can see she's really dialing it back. zing!

A 600 sq ft one bedroom apartment in nyc unfortunately is about $500k. And that's on the cheap side :(
